Reading Task Cards for Small Group Instruction
This is an example of my instructional planning. I created this binder full of 16 task cards that I use during small strategy group. In each section of the binder, there is a laminated color task card, and 20 black and white copies of the task card. I use the laminated, color task card for instruction. On this task card, there are the following story element questions: character, setting, problem, key events and solution. Depending on the students strategy group (character, plot and setting and themes and ideas), I will pose a question and the students and I will discuss whichever element in regards to his/her group. The discussion is guided by the story element question on the card based on the passage, but also modeled after Jennifer Serravallo's Reading Strategies Book. The black and white copies are for the students. Each student cuts out the passage and glues it into his/her small strategy group notebook (blue test book) and records their thought in their own words. In small strategy we alternate between using books and passages.
